Board Member & Fundraising Committee Chair Position

Our bylaws define this role as follows:

“The Fundraising Chair shall have overall responsibility for management and oversight of the Fundraising Committee and the achievement of our organization’s fundraising goals. The Fundraising Chair shall perform, or cause to be performed, the following duties: (a) leading and overseeing the Fundraising Committee to achieve the organization’s fundraising goals; (b) scheduling and facilitating Fundraising Committee meetings; (c) developing a fundraising calendar and campaigns; (d) building and maintaining positive relationships with current and prospective donors; (e) managing and overseeing all fundraising events; (f) ensuring that our fundraising efforts are effective, efficient, and aligned with our mission and goals; (g) ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations related to fundraising activities; and (h) reporting Fundraising Committee activities to the board at board meetings and retreats.”

The role of the Fundraising Chair is to lead and oversee our Fundraising Committee to raise funds for the programs and activities of Rewild Portland. The Fundraising Chair works with the entire Board and Executive Director to determine our fundraising goals.

With the support of the other members of the Fundraising Committee, the Fundraising Chair is responsible for developing a fundraising calendar and campaigns, communicating with current and prospective donors, and building a stronger fundraising portfolio for our organization. 

Ultimately, the role of the Fundraising Chair is to ensure that our organization’s fundraising efforts are effective, efficient, and aligned with our mission and goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop our Fundraising Committee (which may include non-board members) to plan and oversee fundraising/development activities.
  • Schedule and facilitate regular meetings of the Fundraising Committee to plan and oversee fundraising/development activities throughout the year.
  • Report Fundraising Committee activities back to the board at board meetings and retreats
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet the financial goals of the organization
  • Coordinate and manage fundraising events, ensuring all details are properly executed
  • Lead the Committee in identifying potential donors or sources of funding, and reaching out to them to solicit donations
  • Work closely with the marketing team to promote fundraising events and initiatives
  • Manage the donor database (NeonCRM), ensuring information is kept up to date
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations related to fundraising activities
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with donors, ensuring their continued support
  • Lead the Committee in applying for grants and managing the grant application process
  • Ensure prompt and accurate report deliveries to donors 
  • Work with the executive director to Create the Annual Report 
  • Train, supervise, and coordinate volunteers or staff involved in fundraising activities

Special responsibilities for our first Fundraising Chair:

  • Working with our Executive Director and entire Board, define the duties and role of the Fundraising Vice Chair
  • Help select and orient the first person in that new board position
  • Create an onboarding and offboarding process for new volunteers who join the Fundraising Committee

Qualifications:

  • Significant fundraising experience
  • Experience with team facilitation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent ability to build and maintain donor relationships
  • Strong project management skills, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and CRM (Donor Database Management) fundraising software

Time commitment: This job requires approximately 6 hours per week of work on a regular basis, and significantly more hours during times of active fundraising drives or other events.

Training for our inaugural Fundraising Chair: Our Board and Executive Director created this role in February 2025 after outlining the Mission and Objectives of the Fundraising Committee, which the Fundraising Chair will lead. The ED will work closely with our first Fundraising Chair to: 

  • orient them to the role through discussion of our fundraising history and strategy, current fundraising activities and needs, and the mission and goals of the Fundraising Committee
  • familiarize them with our Google Drive folder system, fundraising documents, etc.
  • develop the Fundraising Committee

It will be the responsibility of the first Fundraising Chair to train the next Fundraising Chair when that time comes.
